A Post Card From South Florida
& Other Timely Things
Hey Party People,
I hope you are keeping safe and warm following the snow and this week’s blistery cold.
The best way to describe what I am feeling lately: a constant state of political outrage matched with a deep desire to keep the vibes right and my nervous system regulated. Can you relate? I have a lot of words for what’s going on in our country these days. I’ve reserved most of those words for contacting my local representatives. [Side Note: Calling is an accessible and effective way to make your voice heard on the many urgent matters impacting our democracy. More on that here, and where to find contact information for your local rep here.]
Last week, I wrote about the rituals that help me keep my spirits up. What I do at home and in my daily routines is what gives me the armor for what is happening outside. This week, I want to remind you to care for yourself while you care for others (and please don’t skip the care for others part either. See aforementioned side note for a great way to take care of each other).
Now, inspiration for your care of self:
Carve out time to read a good book. I recommend something that brings you new information or advances a skill. [I’m currently reading Take It From Me: An Agents Guide to Building a Nonfiction Writing Career From Scratch by Alia Hanna Habib. Next on my list: One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad]
Watch a silly show. [I’m obsessed with the Traitors franchise. If you watch, we must discuss!]
Plan something in the future that you can look forward to. This one is important for maintaining hope and belief in a future that is good. [I’m headed to Japan in April – it’s a bucket list trip for me and a return to a favorite place for my husband. I am approaching this trip without an itinerary to unlock a greater sense of adventure. I’m only researching customs and phrases, so I come correct. Everything else is vibes and a few referrals. If you’ve been to Tokyo or Kyoto in recent years, and had one experience you just can’t stop thinking about, send it to me! Just one! Bonus points if it is for food, stationery, or shopping tips for knives or denim.]
If you are traveling soon, where are you headed? If you need inspiration, you can find more of my travel related posts here. If you need inspiration, you might even consider south Florida. I noticed everyone in the U.S. is participating in winter right now except Florida, so perhaps now is your time. Keep scrolling for my eating list for Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

Stay warm, be well,
