For the Weekend: Red Berry Salad
Hey Party People!
How are you? Writing to you on the train home from DC. I spent the morning watching the Knicks parade on YouTube, breaking only to make a brief appearance on The Marissa Mitchell Show (FOX 5 DC). Knicks blue was a must!
I love what this Knicks championship win is doing for New Yorkers. We needed it. We need the spirit of camaraderie and togetherness to keep growing. I also love what this win is doing for me. As the Knicks made their finals run, I released Your Turn to Host. And with all the excitement and accomplishment that I felt getting this book out into the world, I also felt like I hadn’t launched it right. I wasn’t an “instant New York Times Bestseller.” No major magazines covered the release. None of my favorite podcasts thought I was interesting enough to be a guest. My absolute favorite retailer has not (yet) decided to stock my book. I couldn’t help but look at the sales numbers and compare. (Comparison really is the most unwanted party guest.)
But Sunday morning (after watching the Knicks win game five), I woke up and remembered that none of these vanity metrics mattered. The pep was back in my step and I was clear about what winning should feel like. Winning is not always quick, loud, and how you want it. Legacy, impact, change, these are not things you accomplish in a week. Sometimes they take 53 years. I hope you are finding a little motivation here, too.
Big Weekend Ahead
How are you hosting? Juneteenth? Father’s Day? World Cup Watch Parties? All of the above?
Earlier today, on the Marissa Mitchell Show, I shared a quick recipe for the fruit salad I like to make when hosting on a hot summer day. I’ve listed the full recipe for you below (it’s in my book on page 135). It’s simple and refreshing and reflects my hosting philosophy. ;)
Red Berry Salad
Ingredients
2 cups raspberries
2 cups sliced strawberries
2 cups cherries, pitted and halved
Zest and juice of 1 lime
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
Directions
Place the raspberries, strawberries, cherries, lime zest, and lime juice in a large bowl.
Gently stir with a rubber spatula until combined. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with mint.
Refrigerate until chilled, then serve cold.
If you need a little more inspiration for the weekend, you can also find my go-to red drink recipe here.
Happy Hosting!
